Lake Acworth

If you want to experience nature and unwind, drive just a few minutes outside of Cobb County and go to Lake Acworth. It is a 260-acre man-made lake and is a popular site for many outdoor activities such as biking, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

You can enjoy boating on the lake and even go fishing. The lake is home to 18 species of fish including bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, and black crappie to name a few. Visitors are limited to using only electric-powered boat motors in the lake. If you don’t have your own boat, there are boat rentals available around the area.

Marietta Square and Food Tour

Marietta Square is located in the historic downtown. It is home to many public events before the global pandemic, but the place is still worth visiting due to the surrounding restaurants, shops, and attractions.

If you want a more guided experience of the Marietta fare, register for the Marietta Square Food Tour. This would take you on a journey to seven eateries within Marietta Square. All businesses included in the tour are locally owned and operated shops, restaurants, and bakeries.

William Root House Museum and Gardens

William Root House is one of the oldest standing homes in the Atlanta area. The home is reminiscent of the 1860s style and was popularized by the movie Gone With the Wind. Today, modern touchscreen and interactive displays have been added to help tell the story of the past.

The Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society acquired the house in order to preserve it and updated the exterior to match the architecture from its era. Period antiques and style of fashion from the 1860s were also adapted into the property.

The home offers an insider look at the daily life of the Root family and the enslaved house servants who worked for them. There is a recreation of the cookstove from the 1850s and all planted vegetables, culinary herbs, and decorative flowers match those of the past. It is an amazing culmination of historical research and modern preservation.

Chattahoochee Nature Center

Chattahoochee Nature Center is a 127-acre oasis of nature alongside the Chattahoochee River just minutes from Marietta. The center provides unique learning experiences focused on protecting and understanding the river that provides drinking water for the people of metro Atlanta.

It is a great place to learn more about the river’s resources and its connectivity with all life forms. The exhibits also engage visitors about the watershed habitats, the intricate web that makes up the watersheds, and other important aspects of the river.

The center also offers a perfect place to view wildlife up close in its natural setting at the Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion.
